That nasal-y sound you call it is a chanting technique in this particular style. It is called "nonolo". It is a very traditional chanting characteristic (hi'ohi'ona). Just wanted to let you know. No offense. Mahalo.

Nga mihi ki a koe e Kamalei. revitalisation of ones culture and leo are more important than performance, so anyone getting out there to promote it deserves big props. In saying that, I have to agree with you Kamalei.
